General Aviation
General Aviation ('GA') represents by far the biggest aviation sector in Australia.
With 843 issued Air Operators Certificates compared to only 32 for RPT operations, GA aircraft operate out of over 4000 aircraft landing areas ('ALAs') and non registered airfields and 133 registered airfields (compared to only 164 regular public transport ('RPT') certified aerodromes).
Over 80% of the 12,700 plus aircraft on the Australian register are engaged in GA. More than 14 million hours are flown each year by the various industries that make up the GA sector.
Also, more hours are flown by GA aircraft based in Queensland than in any other state in Australia.
Indispensable in such vital fields as tourism services, overseas flight training, agricultural, pastoral and mining industries, police, medical services and border protection, it contributes enormously to the Australian economy.
