European Volcanic Ash Disruption
An eruption of the Eyjafjallajkull volcano grounded flights across Europe, in 2010 and Chile's Puyehue volcano has created prolonged disruption in 2011. Flights across the world - especially trans-atlantic routes - to major European hubs were halted, disrupting holiday and business travel plans and effectively leaving many travellers stranded.
Passengers whose holiday or business flights were disrupted may have substantial compensation rights.
